NCATS: Don Thomson joins Team 3 Red / Ed Hakonson Racing for 2011
STOUFFVILLE, ONTARIO – Seven-time Canadian Stock Car Champion driver, Don Thomson Jr., will have a new outlook on racing this season as he joins the stable of Team 3 Red / Ed Hakonson Racing in Stouffville, Ontario.
The newly inked deal will allow for some great opportunities for Don with his wealth of knowledge, driving ability and experience in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.
“The group at Team 3 Red/EHR is a great group of guys and I am looking forward to working with Jason and the rest of the company,” said Thomson. “This move puts me in a great position, opens doors for me and I am excited to be a part of the plan for T3R/EHR in 2011.”
Team owner Ed Hakonson is excited about the addition to the racing enterprise he started in 2000. He commented from the Team’s state of the art race facility located 45 minutes north east of Toronto, “Don has a great history of being a superb contender in racing here in Canada. We are looking forward to the new opportunities that lie ahead for Don and our team in the coming season. His knowledge and ability are unmatched in the industry and we are proud to have him a part of our organization.”
Snap-on Tools / Rockstar Energy Drink / Vortex Brake Pads #3 Dodge driver Jason Hathaway is also looking forward to the addition. “Donnie and I have always respected each other on and off the track so I am excited that he has joined our team. His knowledge and our joint efforts will help our organization on a number of levels.”
Final plans are in the works for the season and will be released shortly.
The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will hold 12 races this coming season across the country. Starting with the season opener May 28, 2011 at Mosport International Raceway, the schedule will include seven ovals: Auto Clearing Motor Speedway, Barrie Speedway, Delaware Speedway, Kawartha Speedway, Mosport Speedway, Motoplex Speedway and Riverside International Speedway; along with five road courses Circuit de Trois-Rivières, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Circuit ICAR, Mosport International Raceway and the street course at Toronto’s Exhibition Place.
